How to apply

  1. 1

Open the chapter page for Toronto

Founder Institute admissions are run per chapter. Start at https://fi.co/toronto, which carries the cohort dates, the entrance fee and the application form for this chapter.

  2. 2

    Complete the written application

Use the Apply to this Cohort button, which scrolls to the application form on the same page. You create a Founder Institute account (name, email, password and a question about which description fits you best) and then complete the written portion of the application.

  3. 3

    Take the Entrepreneur DNA Assessment

After the written portion you are invited to take the Entrepreneur DNA Assessment. It is online, takes about 30 minutes, and Founder Institute calls it the main criterion for acceptance. There is no way to prepare for it.

  4. 4

    Wait for the human review

Every application is reviewed by hand by the admissions team in Silicon Valley, which typically returns a decision by email within 72 hours. Applications are judged in comparison with the other applicants in the same semester.

  5. 5

    Receive an admissions status

You are assigned one of four states: Accepted, Reviewing, Finalist or Declined. The status also appears at the top of your profile page when you are logged in.

  6. 6

Enrol and pay the entrance fee

Accepted founders pay the chapter entrance fee. It is fully refundable if you drop out before the Kickoff session and 75 percent refundable if you drop out before the third session. Teams of 2 to 3 pay 1.5 times the fee and teams of 4 to 5 pay 2 times.

  7. 7

Sign the warrant about two thirds of the way through

Roughly two thirds of the way through the program you sign the warrant or option agreement that joins the Equity Collective, which is a 2.5 percent pledge per company. You can leave with 45 or more days left before Graduation without committing to it.

Frequently asked

Founders of tech or tech-enabled businesses at the pre-seed stage, including aspiring founders still employed full-time, solo founders, teams, and founders of companies that are generally less than a few years old and before significant funding, revenue or traction. Founder Institute says companies with significant funding, traction or revenue are too advanced for it, and that it does not take service businesses such as marketing agencies.

Complete the written application on the chapter page, then take the online Entrepreneur DNA Assessment, which takes about 30 minutes and is the main criterion for acceptance. A human admissions team in Silicon Valley reviews every application and usually replies by email within 72 hours with one of four statuses: Accepted, Reviewing, Finalist or Declined.

Yes. Participants pledge 2.5 percent of their company to the Equity Collective, signed as a warrant or option about two thirds of the way through the program. The pledge is 2.5 percent per company rather than per founder, and it was reduced from 4 percent in February 2022. Founders who drop out with 45 or more days left before Graduation do not join the Equity Collective.

The entrance fee for the Toronto Summer 2026 cohort is 2,249 US dollars. It is fully refundable if you drop out before the Kickoff session and 75 percent refundable if you drop out before the third session. Teams of 2 to 3 enrol for 1.5 times the fee and teams of 4 to 5 for 2 times.

The FI Agentic Program runs 12 weeks on a single track, with weekly Growth Sprints designed to take an average of 20 hours per week plus 10 weekly Feedback Sessions and office hours. Founder Institute states that about 30 percent of founders complete the program.

The Toronto Summer 2026 cohort runs from 9 September 2026 to 12 November 2026, and the chapter page lists an application deadline of 25 August 2026. Founder Institute’s enrolling-cities list shows 9 September 2026, the semester start date, as the last date on the same cohort, so 25 August is the date to work to.

It is run 100 percent in person, with local networking opportunities and weekly sessions.
